An important date is quickly approaching for those wanting to cast a ballot in the May city and school elections.
The voter registration deadline for the May 2 election is 5 p.m. Thursday, April 2.
This year’s ballot includes eight contested city council/mayor races (in Alvord, Bridgeport, Chico, Lake Bridgeport and Runaway Bay), four contested school board races (in Bridgeport and Decatur), a $137 million bond election for Decatur ISD voters and a directors election for Rolling V Ranch Water Control and Improvement District No. 1.

In Texas, you are eligible to vote if:
- You are a United States citizen;
- You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;
- You are at least 17 years and 10 months old, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.
- You are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and
- You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
Early voting begins Monday, April 20, which is also the last day for the Wise County Elections Office to receive an application for a ballot by mail.
