The Texas Rangers have completed their investigation into the April 22 officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 46-year-old man near the Walmart Supercenter in Decatur.

With the investigation complete, the case will now be brought before a Wise County grand jury, who will determine if there’s enough evidence to support criminal charges after Brady Lee Murray was shot and killed by Decatur police officer following a pursuit. The officers were responding to a reported theft at the store, according to Decatur Police Department.

Wise County District Attorney James Stainton confirmed that the Texas Rangers have submitted their findings and that the case will be presented to a grand jury “soon.” Grand jury proceedings are confidential by law and a specific timeline was not provided.

The shooting, which occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the parking lot area between Walmart and Tractor Supply Co., marked the first officer-involved shooting for the Decatur Police Department since 2005.

More details on the shooting have not been released, with officials citing the nature of the investigation.

According to Decatur Police Department’s initial report on the shooting, both officers discharged their weapons during the incident. After the shooting, they attempted to render aid until paramedics arrived. Murray was transported to Medical City Decatur, where he later died from his injuries.

The officers involved, whose names have not been released, were placed on administrative leave, in line with department policy following officer-involved shootings.
