ALVORD

STORM DAMAGE AT PARK — Due to last week’s adverse weather conditions, the pavilion at Elm Creek Park sustained significant structural damage and will remain closed until further notice, according to the city. The upper playground was also affected but reopened earlier this week without the protective tarp covering.

BOYD

DINNER AND AUCTION — Boyd Area Buyers Association will host its annual Jimmy Ware Dinner and Auction 6 p.m. Saturday at Boyd High School. The event supports the association and Boyd students and their FFA, FCCLA and 4-H projects.

ROAD CLOSURE — The Texas Department of Transportation has notified the city that Farm Road 730 North will be closed from North Wilson to County Road 4460 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday to complete necessary road improvements that cannot be accomplished during heavy traffic hours. Plan for an alternate route during this time.

BRIDGEPORT

CHAMBER BANQUET — Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual awards banquet and auction Saturday at Camp QYB on Lake Bridgeport. Doors open at 5:30. This year’s theme is “Gold and Glitz in 2026.” Come dressed with your favorite gold or glitzy outfit. Visit bridgeportchamber.org for tickets.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — Bridgeport Mobile Food Pantry is 8 to 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at Bridgeport First Methodist Church. Park in the middle school parking lot before 7 a.m. or after 7:40 a.m. to avoid school drop off time. There will be fruit, vegetables, protein items and other food items for 275 families. Volunteers are needed at the church 7 to 10:30 a.m. to help unload the food truck, setup, distribute food and clean up. Call 940-683-2780 for information.

BLOOD DRIVE — The City of Bridgeport will host a Carter BloodCare blood drive 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Bridgeport Public Library. Visit wcmess.com/donate22626 to sign up.

CHICO

CITY HALL SCHEDULE CHANGE — Chico City Hall has moved to a four-day work week beginning this week. New hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, closed on Friday.

DECATUR

BLOOD DRIVE — The Decatur Rotary Club will host a Carter BloodCare blood drive 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 5) at Walmart in Decatur. Visit wcmess.com/donate2526 to sign up.

DECATUR CARES — Decatur Cares Mobile Food Pantry is 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Decatur. Registration begins 7 a.m. in the east parking lot. Fruit, vegetables, protein items and other food for 225 families will be distributed. Volunteers are needed 7 to 9:30 a.m. for setup, distribution of food and cleanup. TAX FILING HELP — AARP will file taxes for free at Decatur Public Library every Monday through the end of tax season. You don’t have to be a member of AARP to receive service. To schedule an appointment, register at taxappointment.aarp.org/s/registration or call the library at 940-393-0290.

SPECIAL NEEDS BOOK CLUB — Decatur Public Library will host a special needs book club called Distinctively Special Book Club 1:30 p.m. Monday. This month the group will discuss “Insignificant Events In the Life of a Cactus” by Dusti Boling. Call Laura Altz at 940-393-0290.

MEDICARE INFORMATION — Medicare Advisor Wes Carter will be at Decatur Public Library at noon Tuesday. Patrons are encouraged to bring all questions they may have about Medicare.

CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY — The next Citizens Police Academy will begin Tuesday and end with a graduation ceremony on April 28. Classes will be held weekly at the Decatur Police Department, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday night. SAFE ROOM REBATE APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN — Wise County residents now have the opportunity to apply for reimbursements on new safe rooms through the county’s Wise County Residential Safe Room Rebate Program. The program provides funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse homeowners up to half of the total cost to install a certified residential tornado shelter, with a max rebate of $3,000. Rebate applications can be found at co.wise.tx.us under the “news flash” section on the main page. A total of 150 applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis by the Wise County Office of Emergency Management. Applications may be delivered in person to the Wise County Office of Emergency Management in Decatur (205 North State Street) 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday or 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Fridays, or emailed to oem@co.wise.tx.us.

CITIZEN LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY — The Wise County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Law Enforcement Academy starts Thursday (Feb. 5). The 11-week program will meet 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Thursday. To apply, email GarrettK@Sheriff.co.wise.tx.us. Spots are limited.

HEALTHY COOKING — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present the Cooking Well for a Healthy Blood Pressure Series beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17 and continuing Feb. 24 and March 10. All classes are at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $30. The series is focused on helping individuals prevent and manage high blood pressure through education on healthy eating and lifestyle changes. Each session includes a hands-on cooking experience and supportive educational resources to keep you on track. Classes will be held at the Wise County Extension Office: 206 S. MEALS ON WHEELS GALA — The Wise County Committee on Aging’s Meals on Wheels Wise County Gala and Auction 2026 will be held 6 p.m. March 27 at the Decatur Conference Center. The theme for this year is “The Gilded Age: Dine – Donate – Do Good.” Gilded Age attire optional. Festivities include silent and live auction, raffle, entertainment and open bar. ROTARY CLUB — The Decatur Rotary Club meets noon Thursdays at the Decatur Conference Center.

LIONS CLUB — The Decatur Lions Club meets noon Wednesdays, except fifth Wednesdays, at the Decatur Lions Club Building, 207 N. State St.

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP — A stroke support group meets 5:30 p.m. every fourth Thursday at Cornerstone Caregiving, 301 E. Main Street in Decatur.
