A member of the state champion Decatur Eagle cross country team will take his running abilities to the collegiate level.
Luke Mosley signed a letter of intent to run track and field for the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals Wednesday at the Wise County Messenger.
“I’m very excited,” Mosley said. “With all of this coronavirus stuff going down, I was very fortunate to get this scholarship and offer. I’m very excited about attending college and competing at the collegiate level.”
Although he did receive offers, Mosley said it was the extra attention from Lubbock Christian that made it an easy choice.
“I had a couple other offers, but Lubbock Christian was really the one that reached out to me,” Mosley said. “I talked on the phone with the coach, and we had really good connections and ongoing conversation. We got in contact with them, and they really wanted me there.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mosley was unable to take a tour on the campus. Instead, he took a virtual tour of the school’s facilities.
“I got the offer during [COVID-19], so I took a virtual tour,” Mosley said. “It’s a very nice campus and it felt like I would fit in very well there. I would also Zoom with some of the coaches. It just felt like home.”
Mosley was part of the Eagles 4A title team in November. Mosley completed the race in 107th place (17:20.78).
“I ran under [Coach David Park], who is probably going to be one of my favorite coaches to work for,” Mosley said. “He set the tone to the point where I constantly wanted to impress him and work my butt off to make the team. I want to show that I have the ability to compete at the next level. Since track season was cut short, I never got to peak my training. I’m looking forward to finding out what I can really do and I hope to take the energy I had for this season with me.”
