Mike “Pup” Jones

1951-2026

Jones

Mike “Pup” Jones, 74, of Decatur went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Memorial service is 1 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Oaklawn Cemetery Pavilion in Decatur.

Mike was born on Nov. 13, 1951, in Decatur to Kenneth and Vera Alexander Jones. He grew up in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School. Mike dedicated much of his life to his career as a parts man at James Wood Motors, where he worked faithfully for 42 years before retiring. Over the years, he built lasting friendships with coworkers and customers alike, becoming known for his hard work, reliability, and easygoing nature.

Above all else, Mike was a devoted father, proud grandfather, loving brother, uncle, and a loyal friend to many. Family meant everything to him, and some of his greatest joys in life were the moments spent with those he loved most.

He was an avid outdoorsman who had a deep love for hunting and fishing, passions he especially enjoyed sharing with his son and grandsons. Whether in the woods, on the water, or simply spending time together, those moments created memories his family will treasure forever.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Vera Jones; his seven brothers, Bobby, Jackie, Shannon, Joe, Jimmy John, David, and Keith; and two sisters, Julie Cottrell and Jane Miller.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Fred Jones and wife, Dana of Runaway Bay; his grandchildren, Brody and wife, Ashlynn of Rockport; and Brac and Bowen of Runaway Bay; sisters, Joy Litton of Robinson and Sonya Jones of Bridgeport; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his strong work ethic, and the many stories, laughter, and memories he shared with those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
