Cain

Mary Jo Maxey Cain, 69, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Dalhart, on Oct. 29, 1956, to Mary Rhodes Maxey and Walter Roland Maxey, Mary Jo was known from the start for the warmth and brightness she brought into every room. She grew up surrounded by love and shared a deep, lasting bond with her sisters — one built on laughter, support, and singing their way through life together.

On Dec. 23, 1977, she married the love of her life, James Ray Cain. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a beautiful example of partnership and commitment, filled with cherished memories and enduring love.

As a devoted and supportive mother to Rachel, Nathan, and Katelin, she was a constant source of strength, wisdom and love. She always knew exactly what to say — whether providing the perfect piece of advice or offering a warm hug when words were simply not enough. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them.

What we will remember most is her joyful spirit and unforgettable sense of humor. She was remarkably funny and had a gift for making others laugh until they could hardly catch their breath. She made everyone feel seen and valued with her beautiful warm smile. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished so dearly.

She is survived by a large and loving family including her husband, James Ray Cain; daughter, Rachel Hamblin and husband, Paul; son, Nathan Cain and partner, Preston Clark; daughter, Katelin Snodgrass and husband, Haden; her sisters, Linda Cullender and husband, Burr; Barbara Cantrell and husband, Phil; and Marlene Hughes and husband, James Calvin; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Roland and Mary Maxey; her son, Jeremy; her father-in-law, Charles Ray Cain; and brother-in-law, John Cain.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
