Most Wise County school districts kept their same accountability ratings, with a couple of exceptions, as the 2024-2025 ratings were released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Friday morning.
Alvord and Northwest school districts maintained their “B” rating; Boyd, Chico, Decatur and Slidell held steady with “C” ratings; while Paradise dropped from a “B” to a “C” and Bridgeport dropped from a “C” to a “D.”
“Today marks a return to clarity and accountability,” Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said in a news release announcing the latest ratings. “With the release of the 2025 A-F Ratings, we are reinforcing our commitment to transparency and to providing accurate, readily available information that helps every family understand how their school is doing.”
Accountability ratings are based on the results of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing. Texas public school students are required to take the STAAR test beginning in third grade, with results used to gauge both individual and campus-wide academic performance year over year.
The TEA ratings factor in academic achievement, progress and how effectively schools close learning gaps among student groups — such as those of different races, ethnicities and economic backgrounds.
Decatur ISD Superintendent Taylor Williams noted Decatur made “modest but valuable improvement” from the prior year’s score.
“Even small gains are meaningful, and it’s my hope that you — our families, staff and community — share that sentiment,” Williams said in a letter to parents and staff, adding that the district can still do better and outlining some of the changes taking place to better support student learning.
According to the TEA, most campuses across the state maintained their previous rating, while 15 percent saw a decline.

This marks the second time this year accountability ratings have been released by TEA. The 2022-2023 accountability ratings were released this past spring after being tied up in litigation for two years after more than 100 school districts sued, arguing that TEA failed to provide adequate notice before implementing stricter college and career readiness standards, according to The Texas Tribune.
