James Gary Hancock, 81, of Bowie passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. Burial will follow at Alvord Cemetery.
Gary was born Feb. 27, 1942, to Meldon and Faye (Teague) Hancock at the family home in Alvord. He graduated from Alvord High School in 1960. He was a truck driver and bought and sold feed in Wise County for many years.
Gary enjoyed traveling to the mountains, trips to the casino and catching up with old friends he met along the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Opitz Hancock; his dad, Meldon Hancock; his mom, Faye Hancock; his brothers, Billy Ray Hancock and Chester Hancock; his sister, Sherry Hancock Barclay; and his loyal dog, Charlie.
Gary is survived by his wife, Martha Boggess Hancock of Bowie; children, Pete Hancock and wife, Holly, of Three Rivers, Pam Harris and husband, Terry Harris, of Alvord, Margaret and husband, Monnie Joe Hunt, of Bowie, Greg Hancock and wife, Leanna, of Alvord, and Aaron Hancock of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Brian, Shane, Holly, Haylee, Jonah, Noah, Hunter and Greyson; great-grandchildren Josie, Hattie, Coyt and Conlee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Gary to Parkinson’s research, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
