Walsh
Herbert Lewis “HL” Walsh, 78, of Paradise, hung up his rope and rode into eternity on Aug. 17, 2025. Born on June 16, 1947, in Phoenix, AZ, to Lewis Frederick “Knobby” Walsh Sr. and Mary Frances “Fran” Maschek, HL was the eldest of three children.
An electrician by trade, HL believed in an honest day’s work and took great pride in providing for his family. Beyond his trade, his true passion was found in the arena. HL’s cowboy spirit came alive through calf roping and team roping, carrying him through both competition and life. He was a longtime sponsor of the Richland High School Rodeo Team and with pride, served as Arena Director for the North Texas High School Rodeo Association, where he poured his heart into helping young riders chase their dreams.
In 1967, HL married Sarah Elizabeth Baker, and together they welcomed a son, Troy Walsh. On Mar. 17, 1989, he married Pamela Janell McCarley, with whom he built a life rich in love, laughter, and shared memories for the past 36 years.
HL is survived by his wife, Pam Walsh; his son, Troy Walsh (Kendra); his stepson, Ryan Meals (Jennifer); grandsons, Garrett Walsh, Gage Langley, Ty Meals, Tanner Valentine, Ty Valentine, and Trey Valentine, along with their wives; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Sandra Johnson; his brother, Skip Walsh; his nephew, Michael Shisler; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Knobby and Fran.
HL will be remembered for his cowboy grit, generous spirit, and unwavering love for the rodeo way of life. Whether stringing wire, working the chutes, or swinging a rope, he lived with purpose and left an impression on everyone who knew him. His legacy endures in the arena dirt, in the young people he mentored, and in the hearts of his family.
The family will celebrate HL’s life privately, in the company of loved ones and close friends. In keeping with his rodeo spirit, memorial contributions may be made to a charity or rodeo scholarship of choice.
