Entering their District 13-2A opener without a win, the Alvord Lady Bulldogs’ path to victory was abruptly closed in the winding seconds of the fourth quarter Tuesday.

Alvord trailed Tioga 41-39 with 18 seconds left, as Cambree Watts received the ball behind 3-point line. The ball left Watts’ hands and swished through the net, but the potential game-winning shot was waived off after officials granted a timeout call late by Lady Bulldog coach Alan Weaver.

With the ball back in its possession, Tioga added a pair of free throws late, allowing the team to escape with a 43-39 road win.

Watts served as the Lady Bulldogs’ top scorer, netting 16 points — finishing 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Cambrie Peoples tacked on 10 points, including a pair of second-half 3-pointers.
