Four people, including a Paradise firefighter and several of his family members, were killed in a wreck in Cooke County Saturday.
Wise County Emergency Services District 3 confirmed in a Facebook post Sunday that firefighter Cooper Bailey died “in a tragic accident,” along with his wife Jennifer and son Hudson.
“To our community: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the off-duty passing of Paradise firefighter Cooper Bailey, his wife Jennifer, and their son Hudson,” the post read. “… Firefighter Bailey was a dedicated member of this department, and his loss is felt deeply by us all. We ask for your prayers and for privacy for the family during this unimaginable time.”
According to Texas Department of Public Information Sgt. Tony De La Cerda, troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Farm Road 51 near County Road 383 in Cooke County at 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
Preliminary investigation indicate that a Kia SUV was traveling southbound on FM 51 when the driver passed in a No-Passing Zone and collided head-on with a Nissan SUV, causing the Nissan to catch fire.
The driver of the Kia SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and two passengers of the Nissan SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene, and one passenger was flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
DPS did not release the names of the deceased in its reports, citing notification of next of kin. De La Cerda said the investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
Wise County ESD No. 3 said in its post that information regarding a GoFundMe account for the Bailey family will be released soon.
