More than 500 votes were cast in the first couple of days of early voting in the Nov. 4 election.

According to the Wise County Elections Office, 228 votes were cast on Monday and another 327 on Tuesday, bringing the running total to 555. That’s slightly behind the pace from two years ago during the last constitutional amendment election when 632 votes had been cast at this same point.

Of the four early voting locations, the Boyd Community Center has been the busiest with 203 votes cast. It’s not surprising, since both the Boyd and Northwest school districts have propositions on the ballot in addition to the constitutional amendments.

The Wise County Fairgrounds Women’s Building has seen 167 votes cast through Tuesday; the Bridgeport Community Center, 121; and Alvord City Hall, 64.

Early voting continues 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the four locations each weekday through Friday, Oct. 31, with extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the last two days of early voting.

In addition to the school propositions and constitutional amendments, the ballot also includes a charter amendment election in Decatur, city council and school board elections in Paradise and an emergency services district election in northwest Wise County.

For voters who qualify to vote with ballot by mail and wish to do so, the deadline for the Wise County Elections Office to receive the application is Friday.

If you wait until election day to vote, you will have to go to your assigned voting precinct, which will be at one of four consolidated polling locations. A full election day preview will be featured in next week’s Wise County Messenger.
