The Bridgeport Bulls claimed their fifth team title of the season by winning the Stephenville Invitational’s boys 5K race Wednesday with 63 points. SUBMITTED
The wins keep stacking up for the Bridgeport Bulls, as the team secured its fifth overall team title of the season Wednesday.
Bridgeport netted 63 points to claim the top team finish in the Stephenville Invitational’s boys 5K race — beating runner-up Burnet (80) by 17. San Angelo Central scored 84 to place third.
The Bulls were led to the win by Xxavier Garza and Brayden Del Rio’s top 10 runs. Garza captured the individual bronze medal in 18:14.24 behind Burnet’s Adan Carreon (17:44.67) and Central’s Sebastian Gonzalez (17:45.13), while Del Rio clocked 18:44.57 for 10th.
Bridgeport’s Jared Contreras (19:11.66) and David Duran (19:22.25) also ran in the top 20, placing 14th and 16th, respectively. Julian Martinez added a 24th-place run in 19:41.69.
The Alvord Bulldogs also competed in the race, carding an eighth-place team finish with 259.
Alvord’s top runner was Hudson Kelly, who narrowly missed a top 10 finish, running 18:53.71 for 11th.
In the girls division, the Bridgeport Sissies were 11th with 284 — 10 less than 12th-place Alvord (294).
Alvord’s Sophie Sow took home a top 25 finish, placing 25th in 14:57.35. Bridgeport’s Miriam Lopez Amador (15:02.11) ran about 5 seconds behind Sow to finish 28th.
Both teams will compete in district races next week. Alvord will host the District 13-2A championships Monday at Alvord High School, while Bridgeport races at the 7-4A championships Wednesday at Decatur’s Joe Wheeler Park.
