A Boyd High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave as authorities investigate a report of an educator allegedly sending inappropriate electronic communications to a student outside of school hours.
In a press release dated Friday, Boyd ISD superintendent Tom Woody said the district placed the teacher on administrative leave and began an investigation upon receiving the report.
“As part of the district’s ongoing investigation, the incident has been reported to the proper authorities,” Woody said, in the release. “The district’s primary concern is always for the safety and security of our students.”
Boyd Police Department Lieutenant Ryan Erwin confirmed to the Messenger Friday that the case is being investigated by the department.
“We were notified Thursday, and began our investigation, which is still ongoing,” Erwin said. “There’s lots of things we still need to do in order to get our ducks in a row, in a legal sense. We are in possession of both devices, and we’re currently waiting to get search warrants for both to see what the evidence shows.”
According to Erwin, no arrests have been made. Erwin also confirmed the student attends Boyd High School.
Woody said that there is no indication at this time that more than one student was involved. He also said that parents may contact him with any concerns about their child’s safety.
The district said it is unable to comment further on the incident due to the ongoing investigation, and for the protection of the child involved.
