Boyd ISD will close for a week after a significant rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the district.
Campuses will close starting tomorrow. Boyd ISD plans to re-open campuses Jan. 18 and resume classes as normal.
“Boyd ISD has put into place strategic COVID-19 practices to keep our students and staff safe. With all due diligence, we are seeing a significant increase in cases across the district. Keeping student and staff members’ safety in mind, we have made the difficult decision to close all campuses starting tomorrow, 1/12/2022 to begin our COVID-19 deep cleaning protocol,” said Boyd Superintendent Tami Vardy in a statement sent to parents Tuesday.
Students will not be required to make up these instructional days and will not be held responsible for missed instruction. Boyd ISD is the first Wise County district to close all campuses due to COVID-19 cases this school year.
While campuses will be closed for class, Vardy said the closure will not affect athletic events and signings that are scheduled for this week.
The county has seen a sharp rise in cases recently with the ongoing spread of the omicron variant. The Texas Department of DSHS Health Services reported 1,181 active cases in Wise County Tuesday, up from 673 last Thursday.
Boyd ISD urged parents and students to be cautious during students’ time away from campus.
“Please be aware that COVID-19 cases around our county are increasing and affecting our neighboring school districts and communities. If a student or someone in the same household tests positive for COVID-19, it has the potential to possess devastating consequences on our school. Although masks and quarantining for close contacts are not being mandated at this time; we encourage each family to do what they feel is best for the health of your family. We thank you for your continued support and ask for grace during this challenging time,” the statement said.
