The body of a deceased man was found Monday evening in Rhome at the railroad tracks near the Texas 114 overpass and South Main Street.
According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, the body was discovered by a BNSF train operator.
“At approximately 1800 hours (6 p.m.), BNSF train operators observed what appeared to be human remains adjacent to the tracks underneath the 114 overpass in Rhome. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed the remains were human,” WCSO Chief Deputy Eric Debus said. “While remains were fairly decayed, there is no immediate signs that the body was struck by a train.”
Debus added that this is an ongoing investigation. He reported just after 7:30 p.m. Monday that investigators had recently made scene and crime scene investigation was to follow.
The deceased man’s identity had not been confirmed at the time this story was published.
There is no foul play suspected, Debus said.
“[It’s] too early to say what caused the death, but there is no sign of trauma,” he said.
