“When considering why I want to be the Wise County Youth Fair 4H Senior Queen, I am flooded with the many memories of the county fair.  The early mornings, late nights, the smell of livestock and shavings, hard work, lots of laughter, friends gathering and the hopes of winning that buckle everyone has worked so hard for.  The fair is a great time for all, bringing the Wise county community together for one goal of bettering our youth.    I always wanted to be part of something bigger than myself, but just didn’t realize I had found my place when I joined 4H in 3rd grade.   This group helped me find just the place to influence others and play my part in pledging “my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service and my health for better living for my club, my community, my country and my world,”  just as you all have done before me.  Becoming the Wise County Youth Fair 4H Queen means displaying the top level of leadership, service, and community spirit. I would strive to be a positive example for the younger participants to look up to, as I once did years ago. Becoming the 4H Queen would also open the door for an opportunity to give back to the community that so graciously gives to the youth.  I, Hylie Hunter, am ready to wear that queen crown not just as a title, but as a responsibility to inspire, connect, and represent the very best of Wise County.”

Each event has challenged me in different ways—helping me gain confidence, learn new skills, and discover what I’m capable of. These experiences have shaped who I am as a leader and strengthened my passion for agriculture.

Outside of school, I have volunteered with events and organizations such as the Annual Victory FFA Benefit Team Roping, Raquel’s Wings Bike Rally, Wise County Youth Rodeo, Joe Ables Animal Hospital, Wise County Youth Fair, Victory FFA Chapter Hobby Class, Live Like Johnny 2nd Annual Clay Shoot, and Small Town Sportsography. I strive to be someone who leads by example—showing hard work, dedication, and kindness in everything I do. Throughout my years in school, FFA, and rodeo, I have learned the value of teamwork, responsibility, and giving back, and I want to bring that same commitment to this role. I enjoy inspiring others, volunteering in community events, and encouraging young people to pursue their goals with confidence. As Queen, I would work to highlight the talents and achievements of our youth, promote involvement in local activities, and represent Wise County with pride, positivity, and integrity.”

Katelyn Read

Club/chapter: Paradise FFA

Age: 17

Parents: DJ and Danae Read

Hobbies: One of my favorite hobbies is definitely being at church and having fellowship with kids my age. I always seem to find myself at some type of church event and with people that are helping me push my relationship with Christ. It is something I am rooted in and continue to connect, share, and learn with others to assist in strengthening my relationship with Jesus. Besides church I also love to fish, hang out with family, color, and be in any type of Ag event, show, or contest.

Club/Chapter activities: A major chapter activity that I had a pleasure of being a part of for two years is Farm Day. This day is dedicated to going to the Elementary and talking to younger generations about FFA and agriculture as a whole. Farm Day is a beautiful experience as you see kids light up learning about a topic that fuels our economy. Community Service within our chapter focuses on reaching out to more than just the places here in Wise County. We were fortunate enough to be able to send soldiers Christmas cards, and stockings filled with goodies. We participate in many other community service opportunities here locally. For example, live thankfully and back to school drives. We put on monthly meetings where we facilitate and encourage students to get more engaged in the organization. We compete in a variety of contests in which I have competed in Livestock Judging, Farm Business Management, Dairy Cattle Judging, Jr Ag Advocacy, Public Relations, Radio, Agricultural Issues, and Milk Quality. I have also competed with a speech at the Wise County Youth Fair.

Offices held: I have held multiple officer positions in my five years of FFA ranging from Area IV Officer all the way to Chapter Officer. This year I was fortunate enough to be able to serve the Hardcore Area IV Association. I am an Area IV Vice President, and the Paradise FFA Chapter President. In previous years I have held OilBelt District Treasurer, Paradise FFA Reporter, Student Advisor, and Committee Chairmen. Not only have I held officer positions in FFA I hold multiple 4-H positions as well. Those would include Paradise 4-H Club President, and Wise County 4-H Ambassador President for this year. I have also been the 2nd Vice President on our club officer team. In addition, I was blessed with the opportunity to be apart of the NRS Show Team for the 2025-2026 season.

Outside interests/volunteer/church activities: Christ is my foundation, my heart, my everything. He is the only way I would be where I am today and the opportunities he has blessed me with. Without Him I truly have no idea where I would be in life. Church is my second home. I always have something to get involved in at the church and I try to take every opportunity possible. Serving God’s kingdom is a very important thing to me, and volunteering is serving so I try my best to do as much community service as I can. The events I have volunteered for include: Bingo Night, Barn Clean Out, Project Show Set-Up, Farm Day, Eighter from Decatur, Flag Raising, Wise County Junior Board, Heart of a Champion, Teacher Breakfast, CTE Meeting , Beverages towards the Fire Department, Stocking for Soldiers, Special Olympics, Area IV Greenhand Camp, Kids Shoe Drive, Engaged in a variety of volunteer activities within the church community, including event setup, service support, and general assistance with church operations. – Sunflower Camp, Kids Youth Camp, Bibles to Other Places, Vacation Bible School, Serve Sunday, Youth Halloween, Childrens Place Clean Up, Gift Baskets within the Community, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Canned Food Drive, Christmas Cards in the Community, Sponsor Buckles at Wise County Youth Fair, Valentine Cards in the Community, Wise County 4-H Explosion, Back to School Bash, and 4-H Back to School. Serving His kingdom is so important to me I felt led to put on my own community service project this year called Bundles of Blessing. This service project collects Bibles, journals, pens or pencils, and highlighters which then create a Bible pack. These are given to at risk teenagers in Wise County. God has led me through everything and giving him the light he deserves and being able to showcase it through a small act of kindness is amazing to me.

“I would love the opportunity to be a Wise County Youth Fair Queen because I strive to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. Whether that be in a show ring, as an officer, or a small interaction you have the choice to make the difference. With this opportunity I want to lead others into this life changing community. The younger children look up to the older generations and I want to be able to share my experiences in a way that encourages them, builds their confidence, and helps them grow. I want to be able to shine light on Jesus as he is the one that truly changes hearts and makes the lasting difference in someone’s life. I want to assist in guiding them to where members can be inspired to getting involved, staying committed, and discovering this community. Being a Wise County Youth Fair Queen would be giving another type of outreach in impacting the lives of those around me.”

Many people jokingly call me a “little Ag teacher,” but it has given me a deeper appreciation for the time, effort, and care it takes to support students in agricultural programs

Younger members are just as important to the success of our programs as the older students, and they deserve to feel seen, supported, and valued.  As Queen, I would strive to be a positive role model for younger exhibitors by showing them that their efforts matter and that they have an important place in agriculture. Whether they are showing their first animal, attending their first meeting, or learning new skills, I want them to know they belong and that their contributions help shape the future of our programs.  I believe leadership means lifting others up, especially those just beginning their journey.
