A multi-vehicle accident in Decatur Tuesday afternoon left two people seriously injured and caused major delays on a major thoroughfare.

The wreck happened just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on the northbound lanes of U.S. 287 north of Decatur near CATS Alley. 

According to Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger, the accident involved a tractor trailer and SUV.

“Two occupants in the SUV were trapped and required extrication,” Preuninger said.

Both patients were airlifted in critical condition via PHI Med-10 and Careflite 5 to Medical City Denton.

The two occupants of the 18-wheeler did not sustain any injuries.

Wise County EMS, Decatur Fire Department and local law enforcement agencies worked the crash.

The accident resulted in northbound traffic on U.S. 287 coming to a complete stop while first responders worked the crash. The roadway remained closed as of 3:35 p.m. Tuesday.
