Two people were critically injured in a four-vehicle wreck Saturday morning south of Boyd.
The wreck happened around 11 a.m. on Farm Road 730 at the intersection with County Road 4756.
First responders reported major damage to the vehicles and requested a second ambulance respond to the location.
After checking patient conditions, medics requested a helicopter respond to the scene.
Extrication of patients began at 11:11 a.m. and was completed at 11:35.
“Two patients were critical,” Wise County EMS administrator Randall Preuninger said. “One adult male was air lifted by PHI to John Peter Smith Hospital (in Fort Worth) in critical condition. One adult male in critical condition was taken by ground to JPS via Medic-1. Both patients were from the same vehicle and required heavy extrication.”
No other injuries were reported among the people in the other vehicles.
Rescue-1, Squad-1, Medic-3, Boyd Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Wise County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
The wreck had both the northbound and southbound lanes of FM 730 shut down.
The crash was the second one in less than 24 hours that resulted in critical injuries.
Around 8:20 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle crash was reported on U.S. 81/287 at County Road 1160 just north of Decatur with both vehicles ending up off the roadway.
Preuninger said the driver of one vehicle was critically injured and was taken by ground ambulance to Medical City Denton. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
