Lady Eagles rout Emory Rains, one win from state tournament

The Decatur Lady Eagles wasted little time getting on the board in Game 1 of the 4A Region II final Thursday night at Prosper. After scoring a run in the first, the Lady Eagles batted around in the second, plating five runs en route to a 9-0 blowout over Emory Rains. Game 2 is back at Prosper at 5 p.m. Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, would immediately follow.

Jordyn Smith's first home run of the season was one to remember. The Decatur sophomore lofted a pitch over the wall in right-center to propel the Lady Eagles to a 3-2 victory over Rusk in Game 2 of the 4A Region II semifinal Friday at Rockwall. Decatur (25-4) swept the series 2-0 and advanced to the region final with the win.

Decatur’s Dayne Chapman rebounded from a tough front nine Monday at the UIL state tournament at Apple Rock to finish ninth in 4A. The sophomore was 8 over after nine holes but managed to finish the round with a 79. He went on to card a 77 Tuesday for a two-day total of 156.
