Update for Friday September 30, 2022

HELPING THE HURRICANE VICTIMS — Oncor deployed 500 mutual assistance personnel, including some Wise County residents, to Florida before Hurricane Ian made landfall Wednesday. The category 4 hurricane featured 155 mph winds and extensive flooding as it hit the southwest coast of Florida. The storm traveled inland toward Orlando, resulting in significant damages and loss of power. According to Oncor Area Manager Sabrina Easley, approximately two-thirds of Florida was impacted. As of Thursday morning, crews were still assessing the destruction and establishing restoration plans. Easley said crews will be working long hours in the days ahead. Crews are assigned to 10-day rotations and work 16-hour shifts.

Fire prompts restaurant evacuation


A popular Decatur eatery was evacuated Wednesday morning as a fire broke out in the establishment’s kitchen. An Alvord man who police say entered several occupied homes in Decatur to commit theft has been indicted by a Wise County grand jury.
