MAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE — An unidentified man was taken to a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle Saturday near Rhome. The wreck occurred about 8 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 81/287 and County Road 4840. According to Rhome Police Chief Eric Debus, the man was traveling southbound on U.S. 81/287, and pulled over to secure the load in the back of his pick-up truck. “A motorist traveling southbound in a Honda Accord side-swiped the pick-up, with the passenger side of the car hitting the driver side of the truck,” he said. “The driver of the truck, who was in the bed of the pick-up at the time of the collision, was transported by ambulance for further treatment.” The condition of the driver of the pick-up truck is unknown. Debus said the driver of the Honda was unrestrained at the time of the wreck, initially declined medical treatment, but later requested to be transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
