Local cheer teams to compete at state competition
A pair of Wise County cheer squads will compete for glory this week at the UIL Spirit championships. The competition is Thursday through Saturday at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

BURN BAN ISSUED — Burning is now prohibited in Wise County for the next 90 days. Wise County commissioners approved the full burn ban recommended by Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty Monday. Previously, burning was prohibited on elevated risk days, as determined by the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth. With the recent freeze, dry grasses, lack of moisture and strong winds in Wise County, Doughty said there’s an increased risk of a wildfire. Under the ban, all outdoor burning other than cooking and welding are prohibited.
