Update for Monday July 12, 2021

COBURN OUT AS DECATUR ISD SUPERINTENDENT — At a special meeting last night, the Decatur School Board approved a resignation and release agreement with Superintendent Joseph Coburn. Board President Thomas Houchin in a public hearing following a 1 1/2-hour closed session on the matter said the district will pay $50,000 out of general fund, which currently stands at $15.6 million, and Coburn has offered to release all his contract rights with the district. He will resign effective Aug. 31, 2021. Vote was 4-3. Voting in favor of the separation and release agreement was Chris Lowery who made the motion, Melonie Christian who made the second, joined by Dylan Barnes and Thomas Houchin. Jennifer Wren, Marsha Hafer and Kristy Campbell voted against. The board then voted unanimously to name Ann Dixon as interim superintendent.
