Man killed in officer-involved shooting

One person was killed in officer-involved shooting early Friday morning north of Alvord. The 53-year-old man, identified as Thomas Byron, was pronounced dead at the scene in the area of Private Road 2698, according to Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin.

COUNTY GROWS BY 1,700 – According to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday, Wise County gained 1,700 people in the past year and reached a population of 69,984 as of July 1, 2019. Population in 2010 was 59,127. The 2018 estimate was 68,284.
