William F. “Bill” Polster

1932-2020

William F. “Bill” Polster

William F. “Bill” Polster passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at the age of 88, in Bridgeport.

Graveside service was Nov. 3, at Cottondale Cemetery.

Rev. Charles Pugh officiated.

Bill was born Jan. 4, 1932, to Frank G. and Anna (Frisch) Polster in Allentown, Penn. After graduating from high school, he honorably served our country in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class ultimately stationed in Wichita Falls. There he met his future wife Nancy Reilly on a blind date. They married six weeks later and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary Sept. 8, 2020.

As a father, Bill will be remembered as one who believed that we were capable of doing anything. He taught us to be fearless in the face of life’s endeavors and that failure was always just a temporary phase; one of the steps leading to the fruition of our goals and dreams. He taught some of us to fish and hunt, and some to cook, all of us to clean, and some to dip candles, whitewash trees and pour concrete.

Later in life, he found a home for his faith at First Baptist Church in Cottondale, where he took great solace and pride in his church family. He was an organizer, fundraiser and helper to any in need as well as the deliverer of jalape o poppers and the gift of a single rose to many who needed a bright spot in their day. He was called “Rose Man.”

He will be missed and remembered by many. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his life and are joyous in his reunion with family and friends as he is welcomed into the loving comfort of our Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two sons, William Francis and James Polster.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Nancy Polster of Cottondale; his sons, John Polster and wife, Lisa, of Denton, Chris Polster and wife, Dixie, of North Richland Hills, Charles Polster of Cottondale and David Polster of New Braunfels; his daughters, Frances Polster and husband, Robert, of Euless, Carol Christ and husband, Phil, of Wilmington, N.C., Patsy Williams and husband, Chad, of North Richland Hills and Mary McCracken of Big Fort, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Frank Polster Jr. of Georgia and Eddie Polster of Lewisville; his sisters, Irene Meyers of Allentown, Penn. and Nancy Allison of Medfield, Mass.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19, we asked all who attended the service to wear masks and regret that there was no gathering of family or friends after the service. Special thanks to the staff of the Stagecoach Nursing Facility and Solace hospice nurses for their care and consideration during Bill’s final days.
