WC announces tuition, fee increase

Wise County residents attending Weatherford College will see a rise in tuition next fall.

The Weatherford College Board of Trustees approved rate increases for the Weatherford, Wise County and Education Center at Granbury campuses at their March 9 meeting. In district students will pay $117 per credit hour (7 percent increase), out of district Wise County students will pay $150 per credit hour (8 percent increase) and out of district Education Center at Granbury students will pay $186 per credit hour (9 percent increase).

For a student taking 12 credit hours at WCWC, which is considered full-time, the cost of tuition would be $1,800 beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. The board also approved a technology fee of $10 per credit hour, a new addition for the institution.

Weatherford College Vice President of Institutional Advancement Brent Baker explained the difference in tuition rates across each campus. “Tuition rates are based on where a student lives based on their official residency. In-district only applies to Parker County residents, but because of the Wise County branch campus maintenance tax, Wise County residents pay a lower rate than other “out of district” (non-Parker) counties,” he said.

In a Weatherford College press release, board member G.B. Bailey commented on how the institution is at the cutting edge of providing affordable education, especially to those entering the education field. “It’s interesting, in the news, the price of getting an education for a teacher has really become spotlighted and the shortage of teachers,” said Bailey. “And the fact that we now have a four-year bachelor’s degree for education at a cost like this is wonderful for the community. Hopefully, it will encourage more people to go into that field.”

The Board of Trustees also approved a one-year extension to Weatherford College President Tod Allen Farmer’s contract at the meeting last Thursday. His contract will now extend to 2026.

“It’s a great honor and a privilege to serve with the many, many dynamic stakeholders of Weatherford College,” Farmer said in the press release. “Weatherford College has always been a great place, and it’s becoming even better. And that’s not a result of just the president, everyone knows that it’s our entire team working together to propel this institution forward.”
