BURN BAN LIFTED — Wise County’s burn ban that went into effect last week has been lifted after rain and thunderstorms moved through the area Tuesday. Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty said he and County Judge J.D. Clark agreed to rescind the ban, which prohibited outdoor burning for 90 days, beginning Aug. 26. “I spoke to Judge Clark this morning and we were both in agreement to lift the ban,” Doughty said Tuesday. Wise County Commissioners will meet Monday to potentially restore the county’s previous, weather-based burn ban. Wise County was under the weather-based burn ban before replacing it with the stricter, 90-day ban that has since been rescinded. When the burn ban was activated last week, soil conditions showed Wise County faced an elevated potential for wildfires.

CAR DIVES OFF BRIDGE, 1 HURT — One person was injured after a car drove off the U.S. 81/287 bridge above the Business U.S. 380 intersection in Decatur Tuesday night. Kevin Boley, 47, of Grand Prairie was taken to Medical City Denton. Decatur Police Department traffic officer Josh Wilson said Boley sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries. The wreck occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Wilson said Boley had been traveling more than nine hours prior to the wreck. “He told us he was coming back from visiting his sister in Lamar (Oklahoma), and that he knew he was tired,” Wilson said. “He said he took his eyes off the road for a second, but doesn’t remember anything after that. He ended up hitting the barrier and fell down the embankment.” Boley’s Kia SUV overturned when it landed on Business U.S. 380. DPD officers performed a “minor extraction” to assist Boley out of the vehicle, according to Wilson. The wreck caused the closure of the U.S. 81/287/Business U.S. 380 intersection for more than an hour as crews worked to clear the roadway. The U-turn lane, which had been shut down for months following a similar wreck in May involving an 18-wheeler, remained closed due to additional debris from the bridge.

Guillermo Jesus Rodriguez, 20, was booked into the Wise County Jail on one count of evading arrest. He remained in the jail as of Update deadline Wednesday. According to Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin, Rodriguez was pulled over about 10 p.m. Tuesday on Farm Road 718 near Newark for an invalid license plate. Rodriguez left the scene in a Ford F-150, reaching top speed at 137 mph. Akin said Rodriguez’s truck was equipped with after-market add-ons that allowed it to go faster than most F-150s. Rodriguez was stopped on FM 718 in Tarrant County and was arrested. According to Akin, Rodriguez was recently cited by Rhome Police Department for speeding at more than 130 mph.
