ACTIVE CASES HOVER AROUND 20 – There were 19 active COVID-19 cases in Wise County Monday, according to data reported Tuesday on the county’s online dashboard, wcmess.com/covidtesting. County Emergency Management Coordinator Cody Powell said it’s the first time the active case count dropped below 20 in the last six days. It was as high as 22 over the weekend with the lowest number being 18 last Tuesday. In the last seven days, the Department of State Health Services confirmed 28 new COVID-19 cases and 24 recoveries. Since the pandemic started, there have been 9,924 tests conducted at local facilities with 831 confirmed positives, 801 recoveries and 11 deaths. HOMECOMING PARADE, PEP RALLY – Decatur High School will hold a reverse homecoming parade 5 p.m. today at the high school. Floats and participants will remain stationary as people drive by. The parade route will start on Business U.S. 81/287 and go west on Carson Drive, through the high school teacher and then student parking lots and continue west on Eagle Summit before exiting onto College Street. The parade is one way only. A pep rally will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Eagle Stadium. A ticket will be required for entry into the pep rally and will be available 8 a.m. Friday at decatureagles.net/HTTtickett. A canned food drive for Wise Area Relief Mission will be held in conjunction to the pep rally. The homecoming game is Friday against Gainesville. The queen will be announced at halftime.

VOLLEYBALL RESULTS – The Decatur Lady Eagles won their 20th consecutive game of the season last night with a sweep against Krum, 25-9, 25-16, 25-15. The Lady Eagles are now 20-0 and 8-0 in District 7-4A play. The Bridgeport Sissies (12-7, 3-5) swept Castleberry, 25-11, 25-11, 25-15. The Boyd Lady Jackets (20-3, 8-1) defeated Ponder in four sets, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21, 25-17. The Paradise Lady Panthers (9-12, 3-6) were swept by Callisburg, 28-26, 25-19, 25-23. The Alvord Lady Bulldogs (10-8, 6-2) swept Saint Jo, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16. The Chico Lady Dragons (7-9, 6-1) swept Forestburg, 25-11, 25-10. 25-10.

WELLS FARGO CLOSING – Boyd’s Wells Fargo branch, at 201 West Rock Island, will permanently close at noon today, according to a statement released by Wells Fargo in July. The consolidation is due to a change in banking trends as customer traffic has declined with the popularity of online banking and the bank’s mobile app, according to Wells Fargo communications consultant Camille Brewer. The institution opened as Continental State Bank on April 24, 1909. The bank was merged with Norwest in 1996, and then Wells Fargo in 1997. According to Wells Fargo, customer accounts will not be affected by the closure, and clients are encouraged to visit branches in Rhome, Decatur and Springtown. SWAT TRAINING – Don’t be alarmed if you see SWAT teams at various locations around Wise County this week, it’s just training. Local law enforcement and other public service agencies including police, fire and EMS will be conducting tactical response training at different locations, primarily in Bridgeport and Decatur. Training in Bridgeport will take place in the area of 16th Street at an abandoned building next to the concrete plant. Training in Decatur will take place at a building near the intersection of West Walnut and Washburn streets. If you have any questions or concerns, call your local law enforcement agency.

GREENWOOD FALL FEST – The Greenwood Fall Fest is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in downtown Greenwood. Parade begins at 10. The event will include raffles, craft booths, game booths, food, children’s activities, silent auction and more. The museum will be open, and the Masonic Lodge will serve barbecue sandwiches. Social distancing will be in effect.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Wise Hope will hold a charity golf tournament at RB Golf Club and Resort Saturday. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Three-person scramble begins at 9. Cost is $300 per team with $10 unlimited mulligans available. Call Janice at 940-626-4585 to register your team.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY – The Bridgeport Mobile Food Pantry will distribute food to 175 families 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, 608 17th Street. Lineup will start after 7:50 a.m. in the Bridgeport Middle School parking lot.
