WISE BACKS GOP CANDIDATES – Wise County remains solidly red, as local voters backed President Donald Trump’s re-election 83.92 to 13.76 percent over Democrat Joe Biden. Other Republicans in contested races won by similar margins, including John Cornyn for U.S. senator, Kay Granger in U.S. Rep. District 12, Ronny Jackson in U.S. District 13 and Phil King in State District 61. Voter turnout exceeded the 2016 presidential election turnout in Wise County with 70.6 percent his year compared to 64.34 percent four years ago.

RHOME ELECTS NEW MAYOR, REJECTS BOND – By a margin of 35 ballots, Rhome voters picked challenger Jo Ann Wilson over incumbent Michelle Pittman Di Credico for mayor, 369 to 334. Sam Eason was elected to Place 4 on the city council by a 407 to 244 vote over Ronnie Moore. Ashley Majors won Place 5 on the city council over Leeanne Mackowski by a vote of 379 to 258. The city’s $4.75 million bond to renovate the former Rhome School into a municipal complex failed by a slim margin of 44 votes, with 363 against and 319 for.

ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES NEAR RECORD HIGH – There were 58 active COVID-19 cases in Wise County Monday, according to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This is approaching the county’s record number of active cases — 62 on Aug. 14. The positivity rate also continues to climb and hit a new record this week at 9.58 percent. The data was posted Tuesday on the county’s online dashboard, wcmess.com/covidtesting. In the last seven days, DSHS confirmed 94 new cases and 79 recoveries. AREA VOLLEYBALL FINAL – The Boyd Lady Jackets (26-4, 13-1) claimed a sweep in the area round against Blue Ridge Tuesday night at Tioga High School, 25-12, 25-15, 25-18. The Lady Jackets will play the winner of the Callisburg-Prairiland area match in the regional quarterfinals this weekend.

PLAYOFF VOLLEYBALL – The Decatur Lady Eagles’ regional quarterfinal playoff match has been scheduled. The Lady Eagles will battle District 7-4A nemesis Argyle at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sanger High School.

IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – The Texas Health Department will conduct an immunization clinic at First Baptist Church Decatur Tuesday. They will be available 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Walk-in’s will be accepted, but you can call them at 940-665-9315, option 5, to make an appointment.

BRIDGEPORT CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE – Bridgeport’s City-Wide Garage Sale Days is Friday and Saturday. It will include 24 households included on the list and map. The map is available on the City of Bridgeport’s Facebook page, and paper copies are available at city hall and the library. Call 940-683-3400.

DUMP SITE HOURS CHANGE – Boyd, Cottondale and Decatur dumpsites will open at 8 a.m. starting Monday.

DIABETES SCREENINGS – The Total Diabetes Care Clinic Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists Dick Gilley and Brenda Haile will provide free A1c screenings 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday. The drive-thru screenings will be performed via fingerstick with results in six minutes. The screenings will take place at 1000 Medical Center Drive in the side parking lot of the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Building under the black awning. For more information call 940-626-1890.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING – The Wise County Garden Club meets Thursday at the Bridgeport Community Center. A lunch/business meeting is at 11:30 a.m. followed by a program/speaker at noon and a hands-on project at 12:30.

GRAVESIDE service for Frank Russell McKay, 86, of Burleson is 2 p.m. Friday at Geron Family Cemetery in Decatur. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins-Decatur.
