NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONFIRMS TORNADO — The National Weather Service yesterday confirmed that the damage south and southeast of Decatur from Monday’s storm was caused by an EF-0 tornado with maximum winds of 85 miles per hour. The tornado formed southeast of Paradise, near County Road 4287 where it produced structural damage to multiple homes, the NWS said. The tornado then tracked northeast for approximately five miles, producing damage to several homes and outbuildings. The tornado ultimately moved over U.S. 81/287 just south of Decatur, damaging a large advertising sign on the highway and damaging a storage building on Farm Road 2264. The tornado apparently dissipated shortly after crossing U.S. 81/287, according to the NWS. The tornado was one of at least 10 confirmed tornadoes in North Texas and 20 overall in the state. Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for 16 counties hit hardest by the storm, including Wise County as well as Jack, Montague and Cooke.
