FIREWORKS SHOWS – Victory Family Church’s Fireworks over Decatur will light up the town tonight. There will also be bounce houses, water slides, food, snow cones and live music. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. Parking is $15 with proceeds benefiting wounded soldier charity, 1000 Miles Till Home. ALSO, Grace Fellowship Church’s Freedom Fest in Paradise is tonight. Festivities, which include BMX shows, live music, inflatables, pony rides, laser tag, a kids power wheel area and 15 food trucks, will start at 6 p.m. The fireworks show will start once it gets dark. The event is free.

SEEKING COURTHOUSE ARTIFACTS – Wise County Judge J.D. Clark is working on the courthouse master plan update as part of the Texas historic courthouse program and is seeking the public’s help. “Our consultants recommended I reach out to the community to see if anyone has historic photos of the courthouse, exterior and interior, that could be useful,” he said. He said they’re also hoping to find items from the early days of the courthouse, such as furniture, fixtures or salvaged architectural elements. LIBRARY PROGRAM – Kids of all ages are invited to Chico Public Library today for Kornpop’s Cosmic Comedy Adventure featuring aliens, rocket ships, planets and lots of balloons. Call Michelle at 940-644-2330.

READING OF DECLARATION – Attorney Brian Alexander will lead a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 10 a.m. today at the Wise County Courthouse on the Decatur square.

MUSEUM OPEN FOR HOLIDAY – The Wise County Veterans Memorial Museum in Bridgeport will be open to the public noon-4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Admission is free, and hot dogs will be served.

ALVORD OFFICES CLOSED – City of Alvord offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday.

BRIDGEPORT OFFICES CLOSED – The City of Bridgeport will be closed Thursday. Remember, no fireworks are allowed within the Bridgeport city limits. If you need immediate assistance during this time, call the Bridgeport Police Department at 940-683-3430.

BLOOD DRIVE – The Decatur Church of Christ will host a Carter BloodCare blood drive 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday. Sign up for a time at 940-627-1912.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION – Heritage Place of Decatur is hosting an Independence Day celebration 7 tonight. The event will include food, a jump house and music.

WIC CLOSED – SPCAA WIC will be closed today for a staff meeting and Thursday in observance of Independence Day. The office will reopen on Monday at 7 a.m. Call 1-866-907-0080 to schedule an appointment.

SHELTER CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY – The Wise County Animal Shelter will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the Independence Day Holiday. It will reopen Monday at normal business hours.

COUNTY OFFICES CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY – All Wise County administrative offices will be closed Thursday for the Independence Day holiday. Several offices will also be closed Friday, including the county clerk records office, county judge’s office and 911 addressing. Call ahead to offices to check their holiday schedule.

PUBLIC WORKS CLOSING FOR HOLIDAY – Wise County Public Works will be closed Thursday and Friday. County dumpsites (Boyd, Chico, Cottondale, Decatur and Slidell) will also close Thursday and Friday. Dumpsites will reopen on Saturday with their regular hours.

FUNERAL for Aubrey “Carl” Miller, 72, of Paradise is 2 p.m. today at Hawkins-Decatur with burial at Paradise Cemetery.

MEMORIAL service for Ben Terry Faulkner, 80, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Chapel in Decatur. Family visitation is one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Carl T. Cox Jr., 94, of Paradise is 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church Bridgeport with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Robert Matt Kasner, 74, of Runaway Bay is 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

NO SERVICE is planned for Gene E. Ashmore, 68, of Boyd. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Robert Sivley, 84, of Runaway Bay is 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
