MAN INJURED IN TRUCK ACCIDENT – A Florida man was transported to an area hospital after two tractor trailers collided north of Alvord on U.S. 81/287 Monday morning. Thomas J. Smith, 56, of Tallahassee suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported to a hospital. At approximately 8:30 a.m., a 2000 Volvo commercial truck driven by Hult Vitaliy, 37, of Salem, Ore., was southbound on U.S. 81/287 towing a trailer full of milk products. A 2018 Peterbilt driven by Smith was behind the Volvo. Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Ricky Hunter said the Peterbilt “failed to control its speed striking the rear of the trailer full of milk.” Wise County medics and Alvord firefighters responded to the wreck.

HIGH SCHOOL TO FOCUS ON VAPING – In his campus improvement plan presented to Decatur ISD trustees Monday night, Decatur High School Principal Christopher Mogan laid out a directive to cut down on the use of vape products and other prohibited substance use by students. He said last year there were 44 incidents of substance abuse on the campus. Since the start of the school year in August, there has been 26. He said the goal is to decrease the number of incident to less than 40 this year. Three guest speakers are scheduled to visit the school, including one this week. The district is working to get a memorandum of understanding with Wise Health System to provide additional help to tackle the issue.

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE – The Boyd boys and girls basketball teams will head to Alvord to take on the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs. The girls game starts at 6:15 p.m. The Bridgeport Bulls face Aubrey at home. The Bridgeport Sissies take on Howe. Chico squads travel to Prairie Valley. The Decatur Eagles play their home opener against Fort Worth Poly. The Decatur Lady Eagles travel to Wichita Falls Hirschi. The Slidell girls will be in Paradise to play the Lady Panthers.

EAGLE PLAYOFF TICKETS FOR SALE – The Decatur Eagles football team will play Clint Mountain View in the area round at Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets for the game will be available for pre-sale noon-6 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at the DHS Athletic Office (visitors must check in at front office first). Prices are $8 for adults; $3 for children. Admission is $10 at the gate on Thursday. Decatur is the home team.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT WARM – Wise Area Relief Mission (WARM) will once again provide Thanksgiving turkeys to Wise County neighbors in need Tuesday, Nov. 26. Volunteers are needed to assist. HISTORICAL GROUPS MEET – The Wise County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at noon Thursday, and the Wise County Historical Commission will hold its quarterly meeting the same day at 1 p.m., both in the G.C.
