NO INJURIES IN CHICO WRECK – No injuries were reported in an early morning two-vehicle wreck on Farm Road 2952 at Park Road in Chico Saturday. According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Ricky Hunter, the wreck occurred at about 5:15 a.m. Preliminary investigation results indicate a 2015 Jeep Patriot, driven by 17-year-old Byron Jenkins of Chico, and a 2013 Volkswagen Passat, driven by an unidentified 16-year-old, were traveling south on FM 2952. The Jeep was driving in front of the Volkswagen and attempted a left turn onto Park Road. The Volkswagen attempted to pass the Jeep on the left at a high rate of speed, causing the two vehicles to collide. The Jeep overturned several times before coming to rest on top of a barbed wire fence. The Volkswagen came to rest approximately a quarter-mile away, where it caught fire and burned. Jenkins and the 16-year-old driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene on foot, but were later located by law enforcement. Both were uninjured. Hunter said the investigation into the wreck is still ongoing.
