VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE APPROACHING — The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election is Oct. 11. To find out if you are registered to vote, visit wcmess.com/registered. You can also call the local voter registration office at 940-626-4453. The November ballot includes state-wide races such as governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and local propositions in Paradise, New Fairview, Slidell and Wise County Emergency Services District No. 1 in the Boyd area. For those who have previously requested a ballot by mail, those ballots should arrive next week, according to Elections Administrator Sabra Srader. The deadline to request a mail ballot is Oct. 28.
SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPS — A weak cold front is expected to move through the area today, bringing slightly cooler temperatures. After reaching a high of 91 yesterday, today’s high is expected to top out around 84 with an overnight low of 56.
THURSDAY VOLLEYBALL — Alvord (8-20) will welcome Perrin-Whitt for a non-district match tonight at 6 p.m. VCA (19-0, 1-0) hosts Heritage Christian Academy in a TCAF Division II District 3 battle at 5:30 p.m.
ALVORD HOMECOMING EVENT — The Alvord Ex-Students Association will host a homecoming get together 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Alvord Middle School Oct. 22. BACK THE BLUE GOLF TOURNAMENT — The Decatur Police Department’s 7th annual glowball golf tournament benefiting the department’s scholarship fund is Saturday at Bridgeport Country Club. SWIM TEAM FUNDRAISER — The Decatur High School swim team will hold a “meet and greet” fundraiser at State Street Pizza on the Decatur Square 4:30-7:30 p.m. today. Fifteen percent of purchases (take out and dine in) during the time period will go to support the team. Mention “SWIM” when placing your order.
CRUISE NIGHT — The last Cruise Night of 2022 is Saturday on the Decatur Square. Registration is 4-6 p.m. Judging begins at 6 and awards are at 8.
