MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER – A Paradise man was jailed for attempted murder after he ran his truck through his estranged wife’s home and then searched for her with a knife before police intervened Tuesday night in Bridgeport. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Stevens Street, according to Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford. Officers found Steven Kelly Wilson, 39, inside the home’s bathroom attempting to break into a bathroom closet where his estranged wife and two juveniles were hiding. 9 NEW COVID-19 CASES REPORTED – The Department of State Health Services and Texas Health Trace notified Wise County officials Wednesday of nine new COVID-19 cases, bringing the number of active cases to 41. In a statement on the county’s online dashboard (wcmess.com/covidtesting), it says the nine new cases should have put the county’s total case count at 119, but it’s at 117, according to the DSHS/THT data. “There are still some glitches in the system that we will continue to work through,” the statement says. “We have also been in contact with DSHS about removing old active cases.” Read more in the weekend Messenger on newsstands Friday and online at wcmessenger.com.

EARLY VOTING CONTINUES – Early voting for the July 14 primary runoff election continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the four early voting locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm St.; Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. On Wednesday, 174 ballots were cast.

ANOTHER HOT DAY – A heat advisory remains in effect for Wise County until 7 tonight. Today’s high temperature is expected to be around 95 degrees with heat index values as high as 103. The forecast includes a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms after 4 p.m.

SEARCH AND RESCUE TRAINING – The Wise County Office of Emergency Management will be conducting search and rescue drone training starting at 5 p.m. today at Lake Bridgeport. They will be set up at Wise County Park.

HOLIDAY CLOSING – The Wise County Public Works/Development Services will close Friday for the Independence Day holiday. All of the county dumpsites will be closed Saturday.

LIBRARY CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY – Decatur Public Library will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day.
