Update for Thursday February 10, 2022

COVID-19 NUMBERS IMPROVE — Local COVID-19 numbers improved in the past week, mirroring the trend state-wide. Wise Health System reported 20 COVID-19 positive patients admitted for treatment Tuesday, down from 29 last Wednesday. The med/surg/ICU capacity decreased to 83 percent after it had increased to 95 percent last week. Statewide hospitalizations continued to decrease since last week. As of Tuesday, 9,529 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized across the state, down from 11,997 last Wednesday. The Department of State Health Services reported two more local deaths in the past week, bringing the total related to the virus to 234 since March of 2020.

WARM UP CONTINUES — Wise County could see 70-degree temperatures by this afternoon as the warming trend continues since last week’s winter storm. The overnight low is expected to drop to 40 degrees with even warmer temperatures expected for Friday.

COALITION MEETING — The Wise County Community Coalition meets noon Monday at Villa Grande in Decatur. The group will observe Black History Month, and guest speaker will be Joe Gratts, a great-grandson of a Buffalo Soldier.

MOBILE PANTRY — Bridgeport Mobile Pantry is today. Cars can begin to line up at 7:30 a.m. in the middle school parking lot by the gymnasium. Food will be distributed 9-11 a.m. Volunteers are welcomed to help setting up at 7 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church parking lot. Call the church office with any questions, 940-683-2780.

REALTORS CLASS/LUNCHEON — The Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors will host a free class with Amy Hinshaw that will help you discover what you need to know when selling or buying a property in a PID, PUD, or MUD 10-11 a.m. Feb. 25 at Decatur Conference Center. The association’s networking luncheon is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. that day at the center. Representative Lynn Stucky will be the guest speaker at the luncheon. Lunch is $15.
