Update for Thursday December 2, 2021

BRIDGEPORT ISD NAMES LONE FINALIST — The Bridgeport School Board named Dr. Amy Ellis as the lone finalist for its superintendent position Wednesday night. Ellis is currently Chief Curriculum and Instruction Officer at Rockwall ISD. The district will have to wait 21 days before officially hiring Ellis. The district recently interviewed candidates and narrowed down the finalists in a series of meetings from Nov. 15 through Nov. 17. The district officially posted the job in September, announcing plans to bring in its next superintendent before the spring semester. Read more in the weekend Messenger.

FIRE DAMAGES HOME — A fire that started in the kitchen damaged a Bridgeport home Wednesday night. Firefighters from Bridgeport, Lake Bridgeport, Paradise and Decatur were called out to battle the blaze in the 1400 block of Dan Bob Street in Bridgeport around 7 p.m. “When we checked on scene, we had smoke showing from a one-story single family residence,” said Bridgeport fire captain Thomas Henderson. “We found out that a kitchen fire initially started around the stove and caught the cabinets on fire. That really smoked up the house pretty bad.” According to Henderson, one adult escaped the structure uninjured before emergency responders arrived on scene. A number of pets inside the house were also unhurt.

WHS HALTS VACCINE REQUIREMENT — The day after a federal judge in Louisiana issued a restraining order against the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Wise Health System announced it was halting its COVID-19 vaccine requirement Wednesday morning. Last month, the CMS directed hospitals to establish and implement policies and procedures for all staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, unless they are full-time remote workers or have been granted medical or religious exemptions, to keep funding. WHS previously reported 50 percent of its revenues are from Medicare and Medicaid programs. Judge Terry Doughty of the Western District of Louisiana Court ruled late Tuesday for a nationwide injunction against the CMS mandate for all healthcare workers to be vaccinated for hospitals to receive medicare and medicaid funding. A WHS press release Wednesday stated it would follow the ruling of the courts. “Wise Health System is immediately suspending and putting on hold all possible suspension or termination of employment actions relating to the required COVID-19 vaccination policy pending further resolution of the various court cases around the country and decision from higher courts,” the WHS release said. I hope the search committee for the new Bridgeport Superintendent did their homework and did due diligence to ensure Dr Ellis does not support teaching or integrating tenants of CRT into school curriculum. I have family living in Rockwall with their children attending Rockwall schools and they are not happy with the District and Staff.
