COLLEGE BONDS REFINANCED — Wise County and Weatherford College officials announced the refinancing of the bonds for the Wise County campus Tuesday. The new rate of 2.3 percent will save county taxpayers $12.4 million over life of bonds.

1 IN 5 FULLY VACCINATED — The percentage of Wise County residents 16 and older fully vaccinated climbed to 20.95 percent this week, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Nearly 1,000 Wise County residents have been fully vaccinated since April 12 with the total reaching 11,795. A total of 16,620 residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, which is up nearly 1,600 from last week. WHS had two COVID-19 patients admitted Monday for treatment. In the county, the number of active cases fell to 11, according to DSHS. The state agency did report two COVID-19 deaths since Monday, raising the total to 119 since March 2020.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SCORES — Abby Mosley swung for three doubles and tallied six RBIs, helping the 15th-ranked Decatur Lady Eagles claim a District 7-4A victory over No. 21 Krum, 16-3. In baseball, the No. 15 Boyd Yellowjackets scored four runs on four Whitesboro errors in a 5-2 10-3A win.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — U-Turn World Ministries will host a Tarrant Area Food Bank mobile food pantry 2-5 p.m. today at the church, 306 N. Texas 101, in Chico. A mobile food truck will deliver food to the location, and it will be distributed in a drive-thru.

SELF-DEFENSE CLASS — Wise Hope has teamed up with Stephen Starnes from North Texas Karate Academy to host a free community event about safety, awareness and defense 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at North Texas Karate Academy. The class is open to women and girls ages 10 and up. Childcare will be provided. Call 940-626-4585 to register.

COTTONDALE CEMETERY HOMECOMING — The annual Cottondale Cemetery Homecoming is Sunday. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m., and the business meeting will follow at 1:30. Donations may be mailed to: Cottondale Cemetery Association c/o Marsha Foster, 456 CR 3591, Paradise, TX 76073.

RADIO CLUB MEETING — The West Fork Amateur Radio Club will meet at 7 tonight at the Paradise Volunteer Fire Department. Anyone interested in ham radios or current ham operators is welcome.

AUTISM WALK — The Embrace Au-Some Walk Your Way 2021 Autism Walk is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Hollis and Sue Jones Park, 550 County Club Road in Decatur. Registration for adults is $25 and $15 for children. 4A BOYS REGIONAL GOLF — Decatur’s Ryan Roudon finished tied for 44th place at the 4A Region I golf tournament at Shadow Hill Golf Course in Lubbock. Roudon shot an 85 in the opening round Monday. Bridgeport’s Wil Beaver is tied for 51st with an 87. The tournament will conclude with the second round today. The top three teams and individual medalists advance to the 4A state tournament May 10-11 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.

LADY EAGLES FINISH SEVENTH AT REGIONALS — With a team score of 746, the Decatur Lady Eagles placed seventh at the 4A Region I tournament Monday and Tuesday at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Freshman Tori Gardner finished tied for 11th with a two-day score of 163, but ultimately fell short of advancing to the state tournament in a playoff to Seminole’s Kendra Elias. Shalynn Belcher tied for 21st with 172. Maegan Johnson was 55th with 204. Brison Hesteande carded a 210 to place 60th, and Jordan Fuentes tied for 62nd with 211.

WALK-IN VACCINE CLINIC — Wise Health System will hold a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic today and Friday at the hospital. No appointment is necessary. The Moderna vaccine will be administered 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. today. The Pfizer vaccine will be administered 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday. Those ages 16 and 17 can only attend Friday and must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

EARLY VOTING CONTINUES — Local voters cast 147 votes yesterday in early voting for the May 1 city and school elections. The busiest polling station was at the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center where 30 votes were cast. Early voting continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the 10 polling locations.

THURSDAY BASEBALL — The Paradise Panthers will take part in a District 10-3A doubleheader against Callisburg beginning at 4 p.m. today at Callisburg High School. The Alvord Bulldogs will travel to Saint Jo for a 10-2A doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

VISITATION for Larry Wiltcher, 61, of Decatur is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins-Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Glenda Gail Moak, 66, of Runaway Bay is 10:30 a.m. Friday at The Rock Church in Bridgeport. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
