SENATE MAP MOVES WISE COUNTY — With the third special session of the Texas Legislature starting today for redistricting of the U.S. House of Representative, Texas Senate and House and state board of education districts, the first proposed Texas Senate map was released Saturday. The proposal moves Wise County as a whole from the current Senate 30 district to 12. The new district 12 would also include western and southern portions of Denton County, northeast Tarrant County and a majority of northern Dallas County.

BURN BAN IN EFFECT — Today’s high is expected to be in the upper 90s and possibly 100. Combined with low humidity and gusty winds, it will create an elevated fire risk for the area today, meaning the county’s burn ban will be in effect, according to Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty. No outdoor burning will be allowed. An overnight cold front will bring a slight chance of rain, and high temperatures on Tuesday are expected to be in the upper 70s.

WEEK 4 RESULTS — The Decatur Eagles improved to 2-2 with a homecoming win against Graham Friday, 37-14. The Bridgeport Bulls (1-3) picked up their first win of the season against Krum, 34-31. The Paradise Panthers (3-0) rallied from a 12-6 halftime deficit to knock off Millsap and win homecoming, 31-12. In 2A, the Alvord Bulldogs (2-2) fell in their homecoming affair against Petrolia, 35-14. The Chico Dragons remain winless after a 54–22 loss to Nocona. In TCAF play, the Victory Christian Academy Patriots (1-2) were routed by Harvest Christian Academy-Lantana, 59-14.

VOLLEYBALL RESULTS — The Decatur Lady Eagles claimed a District 7-4A sweep against Argyle Friday 25-12, 25-19, 25-18. The Bridgeport Sissies were swept by Graham in a non-district bout 25-22, 27-25, 25-22. In 3A, Boyd Lady Jackets earned a sweep against Paradise 25-21, 25-20, 28-26. The Alvord Lady Bulldogs earned a 10-2A sweep against Graford 25-13, 25-11, 25-13. The Chico Lady Dragons picked up the win against Saint Jo 3-0. The Northwest Lady Texans defeated Lake Dallas for a 6-5A win 25-15, 25-14, 25-15.

BRIDGEPORT OPENS FIRE STATION — The Bridgeport Fire Department opened its new station Saturday with a grand opening. The new station cost $2.3 million with a grant of $1 million from the Texas General Land Office helping with the expense.

DECATUR SCHOOL BOARD — The Decatur School Board will meet at 6 tonight, beginning with board reorganization and public forum followed by a closed session. When the open meeting resumes, the board will consider and take action on a number of items, including the Carson Elementary HVAC replacement project, a COVID resolution and the District Wellness Plan for the 2021-2022 school year. The meeting will be held at the DISD Administration building, 307 S. Cates St.

MEDICARE CLASS — The Decatur Public Library is having a free Medicare class, presented by Medicare Advisor Wes Carter, noon-1 p.m. Tuesday. No registration is required.

FARM BUREAU MEETING — Wise County Farm Bureau’s annual County Convention meeting and dinner is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Conference Center. The convention is open to all current Wise County Farm Bureau members. Call 940-627-6474 or 940-683-8100 to RSVP. Reservations will be accepted until close of business Tuesday.

UPPER TRINITY GROUNDWATER STUDY — The Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District will considering hiring a firm at its 5 p.m. meeting today to study future water demand and potential alternative water supplies in Parker and Wise Counties.

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Genealogical Society will have an in-person meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Public Library. Note the date and time change. The program will be “30 Websites Every Genealogist Should Use” presented by Emily Coffman Richardson. The meeting will also be held over Zoom. The log-in information will be on the Wise County Genealogical Society Facebook page.

REPUBLICAN MEETING — Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet 6:30 p.m. today at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Guest speaker will be Matt Rinaldi, Texas Republican Party chairman. Meetings are open to the public. FUNERAL for Emory Don Hilton, 99, of Fort Worth is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home.

NO SERVICE is planned for Shirley Rae Hinton Stone, 85, of Decatur. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Sue Wilson, 71, of Gainesville is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville with interment at Sycamore Cemetery in Decatur. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service. She was the mother of Joe Bob Evans of Chico.
