DECATUR ISD TRUSTEES TO DISCUSS BOARD MEMBERS RESIDENCY — At its meeting at 6 tonight, Decatur ISD trustees will discuss the residency of a board member. Trustees will also consider action on a Level III student grievance and an employee contract abandonment.

NEW FAIRVIEW TO DISCUSS SUBPOENA — The New Fairview City Council will discuss during a work session at 7 tonight a grand jury subpoena for city financial records pursuant to a criminal investigation being conducted by the district attorney. The council will also consider accepting the deep dive audit report, authorizing an agreement with the city auditor and approving $100,000 for drainage improvements.

EARLY VOTING BEGINS — Early voting for the Nov. 2 general election begins today at four early voting locations around the county: the Women’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds, 3101 S. Farm Road 51 in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. Early voting will take place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each weekday from today to Oct. 29, with extended voting hours 7 a.m.-7 p.m. both Tuesdays, Oct. 19 and 26. The ballot includes eight state constitutional amendment propositions for all voters. Depending on where you live, you could have other ballot measures to consider, including Paradise City Council and school board races, a City of Rhome bond issue, two City of New Fairview propositions, Springtown and Azle ISD bond issues and a handful of water district or municipal utility district propositions. FOOTBALL RESULTS — The Decatur Eagles (4-3) beat Lake Worth 42-28 in 4-4A Division I. In 4-3AI, the Boyd Yellowjackets (1-6, 1-3) fell to Peaster 55-21. The Paradise Panthers (5-2) improved to 2-2 in district with a 31-20 win over Bowie. The Alvord Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0) claimed a 36-25 7-2AI win over Collinsville. The Chico Dragons (0-8, 0-2) lost to Era 38-24. The Victory Christian Patriots (3-4, 2-3) fell to Wylie Prep 52-6.

VOLLEYBALL RESULTS — The Decatur Lady Eagles claimed their 10th District 7-4A sweep against Springtown 25-19, 25-11, 25-18. The Bridgeport Sissies beat Krum 28-26, 25-18, 25-16. In 10-3A, the Boyd Lady Jackets defeated S&S 25-11, 25-14, 25-17. The Alvord lost in five sets to Poolville 25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 23-25, 13-15. On Saturday, the Chico Lady Dragons fell to Lindsay 25-19, 25-14, 25-18. Paradise swept Valley View.

REPUBLICAN MEETING — Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet 6:30 tonight at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Guest speaker will be Drew Springer, state senator for SD 30. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY — The Wise County Genealogical Society will meet 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Public Library. Bernard Meisner will give a program on strategies for more effective online searching. The meeting will also be available over Zoom. Log on information will be on the WCGS Facebook page.

WATCH PARTY — A community watch party for HGTV’s “Joined at the House” featuring Bridgeport’s Hayhurst Brothers is Wednesday at the Arcadia Theater. A meet and greet with light refreshments is at 6 followed by the show at 7.

PUMPKIN PAINTING CONTEST — Decatur FFA will hold a pumpkin painting contest 4-7 p.m. today at the ag barn. Entry fee is $10, and this will include a pumpkin and paint. Prizes will be awarded for each age division. Pumpkins can be purchased for $7 without entering the contest.
