HOUSE DESTROYED IN FIRE – A home near Alvord was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. Alvord Fire Department, with the assistance of Decatur, Greenwood/Slidell and Chico fire departments, battled the blaze in the 1000 block of County Road 2372. The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find a double wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The home’s four occupants – two adults and two children – managed to escape the burning house unharmed, according to Alvord Fire Chief Sam Hahn. The fire apparently started from a heat lamp on the front porch, Hahn said. Red Cross was called to assist the home’s occupants.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS – The volleyball playoffs start tonight. The Decatur Lady Eagles take on Godley in a 4A Region I bi-district match at 5:30 in Saginaw. The Chico Lady Dragons face Petrolia in a 2A Region II match at 7 in Jacksboro. The Bridgeport Sissies make their first playoff appearance since 2015, taking on Stephenville at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a 4A Region I bi-district match in Aledo. After winning the 7-3A tiebreaker for the top seed Saturday against Brock, Boyd will play Henrietta at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Jacksboro.

HAMMONS TO RUN FOR COMMISSIONER – Ronnie Hammons of New Fairview announced Friday he will run for Precinct 1 county commissioner. He will be on the Republican ballot in the March 3 primary election. PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Parkinson’s Support Group will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of Wise Health System at 609 Medical Center Drive in Decatur. A guest speaker will be featured. Call Tony at 940-627-4543.

FOOD HANDLER COURSE – “Food Safety: It’s in Your Hands” is 2-4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wise County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office, 206 S. State Street, in Decatur. HONORING VETERANS – The second grade class of Alvord Elementary would like to honor all veterans at 8:30 a.m. Friday during their Rise and Shine program in the Alvord High School gym.
