MURDER ARREST IN ALVORD – A Wise County man was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the murder of a Ponder woman. Tanner Lane Brock, 21, of Alvord has been charged with the murder of Jade Harris, 20, of Ponder. Harris’ body was found Nov. 3 near Denton Creek west of Ponder. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office listed her cause of death as sharp-force injuries from stabbing. Brock was booked into the Denton County Jail where he remains on a $500,000 bond.

BOYD WRECK – As Update was going to press, first responders were headed to a two-vehicle wreck on Texas 114 near County Road 4590 west of Boyd. Expect delays in the area.

DECATUR WINS 4A CROSS COUNTRY TITLE – The Decatur Eagles moved from second to the top of the standings in the final mile Saturday to repeat as 4A state cross country champions. Decatur won with 98 points, beating San Elizario by three places. Matthew Ashmore led the Eagles, finishing 13th in 15:53. Derrick Bible finished 14th in 15:56, a spot ahead of Triston Read. Gabe Embree was 27th in 16:12. Lenin Blanco finished 80th in 16:54. Hunter Smith came in 94th in 17:03 and senior Luke Mosley 107th in 17:20. Jentry Lamirand earned an individual medal, running 11:46 in the 3,200-meter 4A final for sixth. Decatur finished seventh as a team. Makenzie Fox finished 23rd in 12:12. Kayla Leal ran 12:42 for 57th. Grace Lowery took 86th in 13 minutes. Emily Childress was the fifth Lady Eagle finisher, crossing the line in 13:13 for 102nd. Presley Wall ran 13:21 for 111th and Genoveva Pacheco 13:42 for 124th. The Slidell boys finished eighth in Class A. The Boyd boys were ninth in 3A. The Alvord girls were 12th in 2A.

WINDY AND COLD TODAY – An arctic cold front is expected to move through the area this morning, bringing high winds and quickly-dropping temperatures. Wise County is under a wind advisory until 6 a.m. Tuesday as sustained north winds of 25 to 35 miles per and gusts as high as 40 to 50 miles per hour will occur upon the cold front’s arrival. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to near 20 degrees with wind chill values dropping into the single digits and teens tonight.

PROGRAM CANCELED – The Wise County Veterans Day Program scheduled for this morning at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park in Decatur has been canceled due to weather.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS – The Boyd Lady Jackets swept Dublin Saturday to win a 3A Region I area title. Boyd won 25-16, 25-8, 25-8. Kate Hansen finished with 12 kills and five blocks. Boyd will face Bowie in the 3A Region I quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Chico. Decatur will square off against Krum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Denton Ryan in the 4A Region I quarterfinal.

FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS – Alvord, Boyd, Bridgeport, Chico and Decatur are headed to the postseason. Bridgeport will face Glen Rose at 7 p.m. Thursday in Aledo. Chico travels to Mineral Wells at 7 p.m. Thursday to take on Hawley. Friday, the Decatur Eagles head to Childress to face Canyon at 7 p.m. Boyd will play Wall at 7 p.m. Friday at Cisco. Alvord will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Ozona at Abilene Wylie.

VETERANS RECEPTION – The Decatur Woman’s Club will host a Veterans Fellowship Reception in honor of all Wise County veterans 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Bob Johnson from the Wise County Veterans Memorial Museum will be guest speaker. The event will feature patriotic music, fellowship and food.

DEMOCRATS TO MEET – The Wise County Democrats host their monthly social 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott in Decatur. Guest speaker will be Delonia Watson, candidate the Second Court of Appeals, Place 6. Visit wisecountydemocrats.com for more information.

DECATUR SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Today is the deadline to return Decatur Spirit of Christmas applications. Applications can be picked up at the Decatur Public Library and are due back by 5 p.m. Monetary donations may be made to the program at First State Bank in Decatur.

REPUBLICANS MEETING – The Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet 6:30 tonight in the courtroom located at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office. COMMUNITY COALITION MEETING – The Wise County Community Coalition will meet noon today at Pizza Hut in Decatur. The group will salute local veterans. Guest speaker will be Kit Carson. All veterans are invited.

FUNERALS – Service for Sandra Nicholson, 75, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

GRAVESIDE for Karen Graham, 80, of Alvord is 3 p.m. today at Sunset Cemetery. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICES for Nancy Gogniat, 77, of Decatur and Robyn McWilliams, 44, of Ira are pending at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Virginia Mae McCollom, 85, of Runaway Bay is pending at Johnson Funeral Home in San Angelo. Hudson & Torres is handling local arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Ginger Alvey, 72, of Springtown is 6 tonight at Hudson & Torres.
