WATER DISTRICT BILL STALLS AMID DISPUTE — A bill to create a Wise Regional Water District appears to be in limbo as local governments and a major developer clash over how the proposed district would be governed. Senate Bill 1359, filed by Texas Sen. Tan Parker (R-District 13), and its House companion, HB 3154 by Rep. Andy Hopper (R-District 64) aim to establish the WRWD, a non-taxing entity designed to expand surface water access and coordinate infrastructure development in the county. 1 SERIOUSLY HURT IN MOTORCYCLE WRECK — A man suffered serious injuries after a two-vehicle wreck involving a motorcycle west of Boyd Friday. According to scanner reports, the wreck occurred around 2:20 p.m. in the 2900 block of Texas 114. Wise County EMS Chief Administrator Randall Preuninger said the victim was seriously injured after his motorcycle collided with a van. He was flown by LifeTeam 68 to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. The injured man’s name was not released. The wreck caused the closure of Texas 114 in both directions at the scene due to road debris.
BOIL NOTICE LIFTED — The City of Decatur Saturday lifted a boil water notice for the city. The boil notice had been put in place Friday afternoon for city residents after E.coli bacteria was detected in the city’s water supply during a routine monthly drinking water test. One of the 10 sampled sites — at 1100 North Church — returned an unsatisfactory result, the city said, prompting the boil notice. On Saturday just before noon, the city said lab tests confirmed the water is safe for human consumption.
LADY EAGLES TO RECEIVE STATE RINGS — The 4A Division I state champion Decatur Lady Eagles will be honored during a state ring ceremony 1:30 p.m. today at Decatur High School’s Eagle Gymnasium. Decatur claimed the 2024 4AI title — the program’s sixth overall — with a 3-1 win over Bellville, 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23.
SOFTBALL RESULTS — Boyd (28-4-2) earned a 3A Division II regional semifinal trophy by sweeping De Kalb with a 2-1 win Friday. The Lady Jackets will face S&S in the 3AII Region II final this week.
BASEBALL RESULTS — Boyd (29-5) wrapped up a 3A Division II area title by sweeping Paris Chism following a 11-0 shutout win Friday. The Yellowjackets will face Grand Saline in the third round this week. Paradise (15-8-2) swept Prairiland for its second playoff series win with a 4-0 win Friday. The Panthers square off against New Diana in a regional semifinal series this week. Alvord (19-6) knocked out Honey Grove for an area title, earning a 7-2 win Friday and 4-2 win Saturday. The Bulldogs will battle Riesel in the 2AI Region II semifinals this week. Decatur (17-16-1) saw its season end after being swept by Lubbock Estacado in a 4AI area series, 4-1 and 4-3.
WARMING TREND — After seasonably cool weather to start the month of May, we’ll see a warm up this week. Today’s high temperature is expected to top out around 81 with highs around 93 on Tuesday and close to 100 on Wednesday.
ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE — Farm Road 3259 (Paradise cutoff) is now open, but Farm Road 730 near Boyd remains closed due to road damage caused by the recent flooding.
SPRING FLING — The Chico Public Library presents Spring Fling 2025 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the square in Chico. DECATUR SCHOOL BOARD — The Decatur School Board tonight will seat board members elected May 3 and will vote for board officers. Other business includes possibly changing the 2025/26 school calendar for the Enis STEM Academy start and end times, hiring an assistant superintendent of human resources and a budget update for the 2025/26 school year.
