PARADISE RESIDENT INURED IN WRECK — A Paradise resident was flown to a Fort Worth hospital after a two-vehicle accident along Farm Road 2123 and Farm Road 51 Saturday morning. At around 10:30 a.m., Frances Wilson, 84, of Paradise stopped at the intersection of FM 2123 and FM 51 in a 2018 Dodge Journey, said Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Sgt. Ricky Hunter. “Wilson failed to yield the right-of-way to a northbound Dodge Durango traveling on FM 51. The two vehicles collided,” Hunter said. Wilson was flown to a Fort Worth hospital with undisclosed injuries. The driver of the Durango, Stephanie Lingle, 37, and a 17-year-old passenger, both of Paradise, were uninjured.

FOOTBALL RESULTS — Decatur (0-1) dropped its season home opener to Anna Friday, 54-35. Bridgeport (0-1) struggled in a 62-34 loss to Burkburnett. Boyd (1-0) started its season with a 45-26 win over Blue Ridge behind running back Gavin Tostado’s five touchdowns. Austin Iglesias ran into the end zone five times to lead Paradise (1-0) to a 36-7 victory over Lindsay. Alvord (0-1) was shut out in a 31-0 loss to Olney. Chico (0-1) came up short against Dallas Gateway Charter, 22-21. Northwest (1-0) earned a 44-14 season-opening win over Prosper Rock Hill. SLIGHT CHANCE OF STORMS — Today’s forecast includes a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Otherwise it will be mostly sunny with a high of 93. Rain chances increase on Tuesday.

BRIDGEPORT ISD ADOPTS TAX RATE/BUDGET — Bridgeport ISD adopted its fiscal year 2022-23 tax rate of $1.06 per $100 valuation last week. Trustees also approved a balanced budget of $21.2 million, which included a 3 percent general pay increase for all full-time employees, retention incentives and an increased monthly contribution for employee health insurance. The compensation plan raises Bridgeport ISD’s starting teacher salary to $47,595 and increases the district’s insurance contribution to $295 a month. The 2022-23 tax rate is the same as last year’s rate, with slightly more than 85 cents per $100 valuation committed to maintenance and operations and a debt service rate at just above 20 cents. While the rate is the same, taxpayers will pay on average $114 more a year due to rising property values. Read more in All Around Wise.

GOSPEL OPRY — The monthly Gospel Opry Sing-Along Program is 6:30 tonight in the G.C. Rann Auditorium of the Wise County Heritage Museum. Admission is free. An offering will be accepted to be used toward the expenses of the museum.

DISD BUDGET/TAX RATE HEARING — The Decatur School Board will hold a public hearing tonight on the district’s proposed budget and tax rate for the 2022-23 fiscal year. The district has proposed a maintenance and operations tax rate of 85.46 cents per $100 of taxable value, a 5.74-cent reduction from last year. The district is proposing to keep its interest and sinking rate at 23.37 cents per $100 of taxable value. With property values increasing 24 percent this year, the average taxable value of a home in the Decatur school district went from $232,854 to $253,773, according to Wise County Chief Appraiser Mickey Hand. Based on those figures, the average homeowner can expect to pay about $94 more in taxes per year, or about $7.83 more per month, based on the proposed tax rate. The district is proposing a general fund budget of $37,955,000, with projected revenue of $36,798,261, creating a deficit budget of $765,561. The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the DISD administration building.

BOYD ISD TAX RATE, BUDGET — Boyd ISD will hold a special meeting to approve the tax rate and 2022-23 budget at 6:30 tonight. Boyd ISD’s 2022-23 proposed tax rate is $1.0446 — 0.8546 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 0.19 for interest and sinking (I&S). The M&O rate is a decrease of 0.0084 from last year. The district’s 2022-23 budget is at $17,558,083, while its expenditures total $17,456,759, leaving a surplus of $101,324.
