INJURIES REPORTED IN WRECKS — Emergency crews were dispatched to two serious wrecks in Wise County Wednesday evening that resulted in multiple injuries. At 5:30 p.m., Wise County first responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Texas 114 near Boyd. A 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Thomas Spindor, 58, of Saginaw, was eastbound on Texas 114 before crossing into the westbound lane, said Texas Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Sgt. Ricky Hunter. Spindor’s vehicle struck a 2020 Ford, driven by November White, 29, of Paradise. Spindor was flown to a Fort Worth hospital with undisclosed injuries. White was transported via ground ambulance to Wise Health System in Decatur. At approximately 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, local first responders worked a second major accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of U.S. 81/287 and County Road 1180 between Decatur and Alvord. State troopers working the scene said two ambulances were dispatched, and transported victims to local hospitals. An initial request for a medical helicopter was canceled. Information on the wreck was unavailable as of press time Friday.

STORMS POSSIBLE — Keep the umbrella handy today. Showers and thunderstorms are possible, mainly between 1 and 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe. Chance of rain is 90 percent. Today’s high will be around 76 with an overnight low around 44.

LAST DAY OF EARLY VOTING — Today’s the last chance for you to vote early in the Nov. 8 election if you haven’t already done so. As of Thursday, 14,515 early votes had been cast. Vote 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today at one of the four early voting locations: the Women’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds, 3101 S. Farm Road 51 in Decatur; the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave.; Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm.

VOLLEYBALL — Boyd survived a five-set battle against Bells in a 3A area match Thursday at Braswell High School, 28-26, 24-26, 25-27, 25-22, 15-12. The Lady Jackets will face the winner of the Emory Rains-S&S area contest in the 3A Region II quarterfinals next week. Match details have not been released. In today’s volleyball action, Decatur will face San Angelo Lake View in a 4A area match tonight at 6 at Albany High School. In 5A, No. 7 Northwest will battle Birdville 6 p.m. in a second-round contest at Eaton High School.

FOOTBALL — Bridgeport ended its season with a 71-43 District 5-4A Division II loss to Sanger Thursday. Alvord finished third in 6-2AI after a 31-28 loss to Nocona. Chico closed out its 2022 campaign with a 44-6 8-2AII loss to Collinsville. Northwest claimed the fourth playoff spot in 3-5AI following a 44-21 loss to Denton Ryan. Tonight, Boyd will have its postseason hopes on the line in its District 4-3A Division I Week 11 battle against Peaster at 7:30 at Yellowjacket Stadium. A win will allow the Yellowjackets to claim the fourth playoff seed. VCA will host a TCAF Division 2 state quarterfinal battle against Waco Methodist Children’s Home 5 p.m. Saturday at Patriot Field.

WISE COUNTY FORUM — The Wise County Chamber of Commerce will host an Economic Development Forum 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at Weatherford College Wise County. The event will feature business leaders from throughout Wise County. CARE FALL FESTIVAL — The Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE) Fall Festival returns this weekend for the first time since 2019. The festival begins Saturday and Sunday and continues next weekend, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13. Tours of the facility will be available, and proceeds help the nonprofit raise money to care for it’s lions, tigers, cougars, bobcats, lemurs, lynx, margay, tortoise and llama. Saturday tours are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday tours are at noon and 2 p.m. All ages are welcome. Tickets must be purchased in advance. SWIRL TICKETS — The Decatur Swirl is 6 p.m. Saturday. This year’s event will feature nine wineries at nine businesses around the Decatur Square. Tickets are available at decaturswirl.com. Early-bird tickets are $30. Tickets are $35 at the door. A souvenir wine glass is included. VIP tickets are $60. In addition to the souvenir wine glass, VIP guests will receive a Swirl wine bag, stainless steel stemless wine tumbler, wine bottle opener and wine glass lanyard. The Davis Browning Band and Wade Bagley will provide music. The tour starts at the Decatur Visitor Center.

KICKIN’ IT FOR KIDS — Kickin’ It For The Kids, a fundraising event benefitting CASA of Wise & Jack Counties, is 6 tonight at the Decatur Conference Center. CASA of Wise & Jack Counties’ largest fundraising event of the year includes a seated dinner, silent auction, open bar and a concert performance from Lawson Harris. DECATUR MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — Decatur Cares Mobile Food Pantry is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Decatur parking lot. The pantry will use a drive-thru setup. All participants will remain in their cars at all times. You will be directed by volunteers where to pull your car. Volunteers will load the box of food.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY MEET — Today is the first day of the 2022 UIL state cross country championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Decatur’s Giselle Martinez and Bridgeport’s Star Fraga will be the first Wise County runners on the course, as the duo will race in the 4A girls 3,200 at 8:30 a.m. Chico’s Aereonna Cardenas will run in the 2A girls 3,200 at 11:40 a.m., while Alvord’s Austin Souther and Chico’s Taylor Weiland participate in the 2A boys 5K at 12:10 p.m. On Saturday, Boyd’s Riley Nedrow will compete in the 3A boys 5K at 9 a.m. The 1A girls 3,200 is at 11:40 a.m., and will feature Slidell’s Mylee Fletcher, Avery Weathers, Jasmine Gonzalez, Jocelyn Sanchez, Kenlea Hardin, Dayanara Cabrera, Julissa Gonzalez and Catherine Hunter. At 12:10 p.m., Slidell’s Josh Garvin, Manny Peralta, Riddik Davis, Christian Torres, Fabian Gonzalez, Caden Luig and Kolton Fletcher will run in the 1A boys 5K.
