HOT WEEKEND – The heat wave is expected to continue through the weekend with highs around 100 predicted for the next several days. A heat advisory also remains in effect until 7 p.m. today.

BICYCLE RALLY – The Eighter from Decatur Bicycle Rally, benefiting Raquel’s Wings for Life, is Saturday at the Decatur Municipal Airport. Participants can choose between an 8-, 25-, 50- or 100-mile ride. Registration is 6 a.m., and the ride begins at 7. Preregister at raceentry.com. Cost is $35 for early registration and $40 on race day. Raquel’s Wings flies Wise County cancer patients to MD Anderson in Houston for free and has taken more than 300 flights in the last decade. TAX-FREE WEEKEND – Texas’ annual sales tax holiday is today through Sunday. You can buy most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks tax free. You’ll save about $8 for every $100 you spend.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FAIR – Northwest ISD and the United Way of Denton County will host the district’s seventh annual Back-to-School Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Hatfield Elementary (2051 Texan Drive, Justin). School supplies and backpacks as well as hearing screenings, haircuts, eye exams, physicals and immunizations will be available. COUNTY BUDGET TALKS – Wise County commissioners will discuss the preliminary budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2020 at their regular meeting Monday. They will also go over the proposed budget for Weatherford College Wise County and the proposed rate for the college branch campus maintenance tax. The meeting is at 9 a.m. in the third-floor courtroom of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur. It’s open to the public.

REPUBLICAN MEETING – The Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday in the courtroom at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office. For information, go to wiserepublicans.com or visit the Facebook page Wise Republican Party-Wise County, TX.

POOL PARTY – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation planned one last summer hurrah for middle school students at the city pool. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are invited 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday. You can buy tickets in advance for $3 at bridgeport.recdesk.com. Tickets the day of the event are $5.

SCRAPBOOKING – The MZ Bee for scrapbooking and crafting is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 615 County Road 1280. Attendees will bring their own projects, lunch and snacks. There is no charge, but donations can be made to the Food Pantry Ministry for backpacks and Alvord Meals on Wheels. T-shirts are available for order.

BINGO NIGHT – The Knights of Columbus Council 9644 in Decatur is sponsoring Bingo Night 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday at the church hall of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

FUNERALS – Service for Jonnie Lee Martin, 60, of Port Arthur is 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Billie Maxine Shaw DeBrie, 95, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Family visitation is 1:30 p.m. at the church.

GRAVESIDE service for Janet Elaine (Ingram) Dietzman, 79, of Justin is 10 a.m. Saturday at Justin Cemetery. A memorial will be held shortly afterwards at North Texas Church of Christ in Northlake.

SERVICE for Herman Pryor, 92, of Decatur is pending at Hawkins-Decatur.
