Two people were transported to Wise Health System in Decatur with injuries following a two-vehicle wreck at one of Wise County’s busiest intersections Monday afternoon.
According to Decatur Police Department Sgt. Keith Hilton, the collision was reported at 4:45 p.m.
Preliminary investigation results indicate a 2015 Honda Civic driven by Elsa Romero, 32, of San Francisco, Calif., was traveling west on U.S. 380 and attempted to take the exit northbound onto U.S. 81/287.
Romero failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2019 GMC Terrain driven by Robert Fore, 23, of Nash. The two vehicles collided, causing the closure of the westbound right lane of U.S. 380, as well as backups at the U.S. 81/287 exits.
Fore and Romero’s passenger, Jose Castro, were taken to WHS with non-life threatening injuries.
Romero was uninjured in the wreck, and was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.
