Students at Weatherford College Wise County (WCWC) are gaining leadership experience through the new student ambassador program.

Brianna Fraga, Chris Isaac and Zaira Ruvalcaba are the three WCWC student ambassadors for this year.

Weatherford College started the program in 2005 at the Weatherford location. It was brought to WCWC in the fall of 2022.

“The program is currently only offered on the main and Wise County campus,” Ruvalcaba said.

The three students attend luncheons, help with campus tours, talk with current students and much more for the college. They want everyone who walks though the college’s doors to feel welcome.

Fraga was excited to see a new organization coming to her college campus, especially one that she can make a difference in.

“I was excited to see that another organization was going to be started at the college and saw the fantastic opportunities that they offered,” Fraga said. “It was also a great way to get more involved and develop leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.”

Fraga is enjoying her time representing the college and gaining new life skills.

“The program allows students to take on leadership roles at the college,” Fraga said. “Ambassadors help in campus events and with some community activities as well.”

Through the program, they interact with prospective students.

“On a weekly basis, we work in the office and assist with general clerical duties and provide campus tours,” Fraga said.

Both Fraga and Ruvalcaba were recommended by their professors, and were excited to take the opportunity.

Fraga has enjoyed working with faculty at the college to get the program running

“Though the ambassador program is still new to the campus, the support from our Executive Dean, Kristin McLaughlin, and Director of Student Services, Kim Hutton, has allowed us to excel in our positions,” Fraga said. “It has been so great to be guided by them.”

Ruvalcaba said the faculty has been tremendous.

“Our student advisor, Kim Hutton, and Dean Kristin Mclaughlin are often coming up with ingenious ways to create a sense of unity within the campus,” Ruvalcaba said.
