Paradise duo finish first, second at Alvord meet


Paradise’s Andrew Messenger and Cole Goodman set the pace for the field at the Alvord Invitational meet Thursday at Alvord High School.

Messenger took the gold in the varsity 5K race in 17:46. Goodman captured the silver finish three seconds later.

The pair finished more than 30 seconds faster than the next competitor in the field of 35 runners.

The Panthers won the meet with 23 points, ahead of Alvord (43) and Nocona (66).

Cade Pearson and Carlos Perez added a pair of medals for Paradise. Pearson was fourth in 18:36, while Perez ran 18:57 to place sixth.

Jose Luevanos was 12th in 19:40. Bryson Gibson ran 19:47 to place 13th. Levi Goodman crossed in 14th in 19:56. Caleb Bond finished in 20:53 for 23rd place.

Alvord’s Austin Souther was the fastest Bulldog on the trails, finishing in the bronze spot in 18:22.

Wyatt Dickerson and Camron Seiter ran to top-10 finishes for Alvord. Dickerson was fifth in 18:56 and Seiter ran 19:15 to place seventh.

Carson Gray crossed the finish line in 23:34 for 33rd place.

The Paradise Lady Panthers claimed the bronze team medal with 76 points behind Nocona (41) and Lipan (46). Paradise outran the competition from Alvord (117), Muenster (117), Era (135), Krum (154) and Bells (196).

Nocona’s Allie Brown won the varsity girls’ 2.1-mile race in 13:06.

Charlotte Pollard led the Lady Panthers with a fourth-place performance in 13:52. Aubree Godwin also finished in the top-10, running 13:54 to take sixth.

Georgia Black finished 17th in 14:38. Shaylynne Nelson ran 14:54 and finished 23rd.

Paradise’s final two runners were Kyndel Adams (26th, 15:08) and Jennifer Chavez-Romo (28th, 15:15).

Alvord’s Tawni Hamilton finished atop the pack of Lady Bulldogs, placing 14th in 14:18.

Aubrey Mitchell was 21st in 14:44, while Rachae Fowler ran 14:52 to place 22nd.

Katie Slaten’s 15:33 was fast enough to finish 29th. Eisley Taylor took 31st in 15:48.

The Alvord Lady Bulldogs will run at the Brock Invitational Wednesday. The Bulldogs’ next race is at the Boyd Invitational Oct. 9

Paradise teams will run at the Whitesboro Invitational Oct. 2.
